The largest critical care unit for children in Australia is another step closer for western Sydney families, with construction of the 14-storey Paediatric Services Building at the Children's Hospital in Westmead getting underway this week.
The $619 million Stage 2 Development is part of a wider, $8 billion investment in health infrastructure across western and south-western Sydney, and will include a number of facilities to help improve the availability and efficacy of services and treatment.
Some of the new services and facilities include:
- Peadiatric ICU
- Neonatal ICU
- Cancer services
- A state Paediatric Burns Unit
- A Pharmacy department featuring state-of-the-art robotics
- Improved Inpatient Units, with bedside accommodation for parents.
- Operating theatres and a perioperative suite
"The new paediatric services building has been thoughtfully designed to ensure the facilities support patient wellbeing, their carers' comfort, and delivers the best working environment for staff to deliver exceptional care," said State Member for Seven Hills Mark Taylor, who joined Premier Dominic Perrottet, Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee to mark the milestone.
The development will also include multi-storey parking, more redeveloped green areas, new playgrounds and improved family spaces, with construction expected to be completed in 2025.
