Hall of Shame: Burwood and Bankstown top list of egregious eateries

A large number of restaurants and eateries across NSW have started the new year on the Food Authority’s infamous ‘name and shame’ list, which also features a significant number of Western Sydney establishments.

The regularly-updated list shows the venues that have recently attracted fines and warnings for a wide range of offences including common infractions for cleanliness and safe food storage through to less common fines for selling food past its expiry date and the use of illegal preservatives.

While a wide range of venues from across the state have been named, Burwood and Canterbury-Bankstown LGAs lead the way for Western Sydney, with 11 and seven offences respectively. While a number of locations received multiple warnings, one restaurant in particular, New Hunan Noodle Bar on Railway Parade in Burwood received six separate fines - more than some other local government areas combined.

Across the state, the most recent wave of breaches has seen over $10,000 in fines handed out.

All businesses that have been hit with a penalty notice will typically stay on the register for 12 months since the offence.
