A Sydney development company is campaigning the City of Parramatta to redistribute the border with Harris Park in the hopes of having their under-construction, 39-storey residential building located in a more renowned suburb.
Per NewsCorp, ALAND hope councillors will ignore advice and history, with a similar proposal being rejected in 2020 and current recommendations advising against the idea.
Harris Park is eight times smaller than Parramatta, and the proposed change would affect 373 residents and businesses in the proposed area. Currently, apartments in Harris Park have an average value of $435,000, while in Parramatta it's over $600,000. Council is aware of what ALAND has to gain from the change financially.
"It's that whole thing of 'what's in a name?' - it would potentially get them a premium," said Concillor Dan Silvero, who is happy to accept the proposal with community support, per ABC.
Harris Park is already smaller than the 100-acre minimum recommended by the Geographical Names Board of NSW.
Council has deferred the decision until the next meeting on March 27 to consider the views of residents in favour, while ALAND is already listing the property's location as 'Parramatta' on their website.
