Approximately 60 RFS personnel and 16 fire trucks have successfully put out a massive fire at a Campbelltown service station, which threatened to grow out of control after starting at around 10.15pm on February 24.
Subsequent investigations have led firefighters to believe the blaze may have been initiated by a small spark given off by a refuelling petrol tanker. That spark is alleged to have started a small fire which burned momentarily before causing a huge explosion.
Despite the concerns of nearby citizens and reports of LPG canisters exploding and being launched into the air, no one has been hurt as a result of the blaze, but 9News reports that approximately 50 residents had been evacuated.
“We have no reported injuries at this time,” FRNSW Superintendent Gregory Wright confirmed to Nine.
“The fire is under investigation. The fuel truck driver and service station attendant are assisting in our inquiries.”
Multiple road closures are still in place in the vicinity of the Westside Petroleum station on Lindesay Street as investigations continue.
