Penrith City Council invites you to Corio Drive Reserve in St Clair on Saturday March 25 to partake in the 'Cooling St Clair' program.
The program is designed to help reduce the effects of devastating summer heat by increasing the number of well-shaded areas, with 580 new trees - grown in Council's own nursery - to be planted on the day. Currently, many radidly-developing western Sydney suburbs are suffering from increasing 'heat island' effects, where a lack of shade and increase in concreted spaces contributes to a rise in the already stifling Summer conditions. Mass tree-planting projects like this increase the amount of shade which in turn helps cool the surrounding area.
There will also be a nature-themed activity table for kids, and a barbecue lunch and refreshments will be provided to all volunteers.
To register for the event, just head to EventBrite.
