The Fairfield International Monument has stood for decades as the epitome of the cultural and community spirit in the local area.
Originally conceived by the members of the 16 groups that made up the Fairfield Multicultural Society in 1977, it was designed to celebrate the growing number of groups making the region the thriving hub of multiculturalism that it still is today.
While the current parklet was initially put aside to recognise the wide variety of immigrant groups who contribute to the community, Fairfield City Council has announced that the space has now officially been earmarked for a $700,000 upgrade, which will also include other significant historical landmarks including the PJ Friend clock and the Stimson Memorial drinking fountain - built nearly100 years ago.
It will also include more trees, seating and paths to accommodate the growing community.
The upgraded site on The Crescent is expected to be opened sometime in April, 2023.
