After years of speculation, the fate of the beloved Kingswood Hotel has been revealed, with confirmation that the building will be demolished to make way for a $68 million redevelopment that will include high-density residential towers.
The move has been long-discussed since the venue was sold to Iris Group at the end of 2018, though it has stood at its location on the corner of the Great Western Highway opposite Kingswood Railway Station since it first opened in 1953.
The surrounds have already seen significant growth, with residential towers built over nearby shopfronts on the Highway, as well as the recent upgrades to Nepean Hospital.
But loyal patrons can rest easy, with confirmation that the hotel will remain; first as a temporary purpose-built pub and bottle shop on the construction site, before eventually being incorporated into the new structures as a new-look venue capable of holding up to 500 patrons, with a lounge, hotel, bistro, multiple lobbies and an outdoor eating area.
“The intent of this proposal is to provide a landmark mixed-use development in the heart of Kingswood that demonstrates design excellence, offers a high level of amenity for future occupants, and provides residential accommodation to the locality to support urban growth,” the planner said, per Newscorp.
