The GWS Giants have pulled off a major coup on the cusp of the new AFL season, securing the services of talented young midfielder Tom Green on a four-year contract extension.
The new deal will keep Green, a Canberra native, at the club until the end of the 2027 season, extending his stay in Sydney's west after rising through the ranks at the Giants' academy. The 192cm gun was considered one of the most sought-after players coming off contract prior to signing the extension, which he labelled a mere formality given his desire to stay at the club.
"Tom is one of the best young talents in the game, and as someone who came through the Giants academy, we were keen to secure his services long-term," said GWS football boss Jason McCartney in a statement.
Despite the team's struggles in last year's disappointing campaign, Green has shown constant development and improvement as he prepares for his fourth season in the AFL. Despite being just 22 years of age, he's already considered an important part of the team, having being promoted to the leadership group earlier in 2023.
The Giants will kick off their 2023 AFL Season by hosting the Adelaide Crows at Giants Stadium in Homebush on March 19, but fans will have an opportunity to catch their favourite GWS players in a pre-season trial game against the Gold Coast, to be played at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday, March 4.
