Dementia Australia's Memory Walk & Jog returns to western Sydney this weekend, taking place at the newly-revitalised Tench Reserve in Penrith on Sunday, March 5.
It's just one of many events being held around the country to raise funds and awareness Dementia Australia as they support both sufferers and their families. Currently, there are an estimated 487,500 Australians living with dementia and 1.6 million people involved in their care - from family members and spouses to health professionals and carers. An incurable affliction, Dementia is the second-leading cause of death in Australia.
The event is open to everyone, from children through to the elderly, and also reinforces the importance of physical exercise in helping to improve brain health. There are multiple options available for varying fitness levels, with 2km and 8km options, as well as a timed 8km run.
Participants can even bring their four-legged friends along to the dog-friendly event - though they must be registered prior to the start.
While funds will be primarily used to support those dealing with dementia, money will also be used to help establish research partnerships, funding more scientific research into the causes of dementia and with a hope to bringing about the end of the devastating affliction.
You can register to participate of volunteer at this weekend's event - or make a donation - by going to the Memory Walk & Jog website.
