RON MASSEY CUP

There are just two undefeated teams left in the Ron Massey Cup after the Glebe Dirty Reds got past Ryde-Eastwood in a hard-fought contest at Lidcombe Oval.

The boot of Glebe centre Devon Makaore-Boyce was decisive after both teams scored four tries, with the extra conversions proving the difference. Glebe and St Marys sit atop the ladder after the Saints enjoyed the bye. It was also the last game for Reds captain Jackson Garlick.

Meanwhile Mounties are finally off the mark, beating the Silkatils in emphatic fashion behind doubles to Roman Ioelu, Freddy Kini and Lorenzo Mulitalo. Ioelu finished the dominant display with a personal tally of 16 points.

Wentworthville are still in touch with the top four thanks to an important win over Brothers, while Hills continue to climb, heaping more misery on the Bulldogs who remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the ladder.

Things don’t get any easier for the Dogs, who’ll host the ladder-leading Reds next week, while St Marys return to action in an important clash against the wounded Hawks.

WENTWORTHVILLE 26 (D Smith 2, N Walker, J Delailoa, C Tupou tries; Smith 3 goals) D. PENRITH BROTHERS 10 (V Kuli, L Tapaatoutai tries; I Tagaloamatua goal). (lock fwd Jordan Main sin bin)

SYDNEY SHIELD

Cabramatta sit atop the Sydney Shield ladder despite having a game in hand thanks to a thrilling two-point win over Mounties, with five-eighth Brandon Maycock kicking the visitors to victory. A hat-trick to Mounties winger Thomas Menzies saw him shoot to the top of the competition’s try-scoring ranks with five for the year.

Hills and Wentworthville both ran up massive scores in their games against Moorebank and Brothers respectively.

Ryde-Eastwood are close on the heels of Cabramatta following their win over Glebe, but they’ll face a strong challenge to remain there with an important upcoming clash against St Marys.
