With the first round of community consultation complete, the City of Parramatta has released their revised plan to upgrade the swimming area of Lake Parramatta by December this year.
The project proposes a number of upgrades to the area, such as a beach installation, retaining walls, increased shade and upgraded entry points with steps and handrails to improve accessibility - all measures which have garnered support.
A key change has been made with the removal of a pontoon that was in the initial proposal - a decision made due to the safety concerns of the general public and a subsequent assessment by Royal Life Saving NSW.
Proposals for ramp access have also been refused due to environmental impact, in line with the public's primary concerns about the impact of development on the natural surroundings and water quality within the lake itself.
The plans are open to public feedback on the City of Parramatta website, with construction beginning in the coming weeks.
