After years of speculation, the intended flight paths for arriving and departing flights from the new Western Sydney International (WSI) airport have been revealed this week, with local residents finally given a clear picture of the impact of aircraft noise on their neighbourhood.

In no great surprise, it's not great reading for residents of many western Sydney suburbs.

The suburbs closest to the new facility, including Luddenham, Kemps Creek and Twin Creeks will clearly be the worst off in terms of noise impact, despite the significant improvements to accessibility and infrastructure that they've received as a result of their proximity.

Meanwhile, initial examination of the flight paths indicates residents of suburbs including Mount Druitt, Blacktown and Penrith will feel the most considerable impact of flights coming both in and out, as well as those in St Clair and Erskine Park.

The government has already established a website where local residents can go and explore the direct impact on them in terms of both the flight paths and noise impacts.

“This tool will let people search an address or location and get a clear picture of (the) impact of the preliminary flight paths including the expected altitude at that location, daily aircraft numbers and the predicted aircraft noise,“ said Infrastructure Minister Catherine King.

The airport is set to open in 2026 and will run 24 hours a day, providing little relief for residents who find themselves living underneath one of the paths.

Infrastructure Minister Catherine King says her department will be holding community information and feedback sessions in the coming months, with the community advice to be 'considered' as the flight path designs are finalised.
