A number of Western Sydney councils have been recognised for their superb community initiatives and involvement at the 2023 Local Government Awards, held recently in Hyde Park.

The awards are contested by all local governments in the state, with categories recognising achievements in Art and Culture, Events and Communications, Youth Week initiatives and local government planning.

Penrith City Council took home two awards for planning and communications, while Hawkesbury Council also secured two titles in the Events and Communications category.

There was also recognition for Canterbury-Bankstown's highly successful 'Ramadan Nights Lakemba', while Fairfield and Camden councils were both recognised for their amazing Youth Week initiatives. Blacktown City won a nod in Arts and Culture for meaningful public artwork dealing with the issue of domestic violence.
