A Bankstown Dad and his family are celebrating this morning (and likely to take the day off work) after being confirmed as the sole Division 1 winner of this week's enormous $100 million Powerball draw.
The historic jackpot was reached after five consecutive draws were unable to secure a winner, and is the second-biggest win in Powerball history after a nurse - also from Sydney - claimed a $107m prize back in 2019.
The fact that they're the sole winners is remarkable in itself, with up to half the national population estimated to be holding a ticket to this week's massive draw. Though the elated winner told representatives from 'The Lott' that he was still likely to show up for work on Friday when they called to deliver the good news, a quick interjection from his wife is expected to lead to a change of heart as they wait the standard two weeks for the payment to arrive in their account.
There were also 10 Division Two winners, who each took home nearly a quarter of a million dollars in prize money, with a total of $77.6 million claimed by lower division winners.
So far this year there have been nine Division 1 winners who have amassed a total of $254 million - further demonstrating the massive size of this week's win.
The winning numbers were 22, 3, 5, 23, 4, 14 and 6, with the Powerball number 17.
