The GWS Giants will be able to turn their training and community centre in Homebush into a brand-new Centre of Excellence after they received a $15 million grant from the NSW Government.
While the centre and facilities will benefit the Giant’s AFL, AFLW and Netball teams, Premier Dominic Perrottet was quick to identify the benefit this grant would give the women’s game in particular.
“Women’s sport is experiencing exponential growth - and this project has a particular focus on creating more opportunities for women and girls in AFL,” the Premier said.
As well as improved facilities for the women’s team, the grant will also help with the installation of new lighting fixtures, a scoreboard, fencing and even a swimming pool.
While the news is a welcome boost for the development of the team and AFL in Sydney, it's not known what impact this development will have on the club's ties with the facilities at Blacktown International Sportspark
