Whether it's rent, tolls, inflation or even tickets to Vivid, Sydneysiders are getting sick and tired of being slugged in the hip pocket.
So it's no surprise that the impending arrival of a popular burger franchise has been met with cynicism after it was revealed that the eye-catching items would cost in excess of $40 - and that's without chips!
Brick Burger, a popular restaurant chain from Asia, will be touring Australia and New Zealand later in the year with a number of pop-up installations in capital cities, and it will be coming to Sydney on September 9-10.
The stores feature a number of eye-catching Lego displays and customers can enjoy building with bricks while they wait for their meal - but the Lego theme continues on the menu, with the buns of burgers also shaped like Lego bricks.
But the announcement of the brand's trip to Australia drew sharp gasps when prices were revealed - with a $47 ticket entitling customers to one burger and one drink (including beer or wine).
While Sydney already has a well-established and competitive premium burger scene, few of the offerings around the city come close to such a cost. Whether the initial, widely-circulated press release was inaccurate or it came about as a response to early reactions, prices seem to have been reduced to $40 plus fees.
The confusion around the price becomes more pronounced when looking at the New Zealand leg of the tour, where the exact same package is retailing for $23NZD ($25 AUD). In the Philippines, the burgers and sides commonly sit between $10-$20 AUD.
What do you think? Is this a reasonable price for a one-off novelty experience? Or is it too much to ask when we're being squeezed by more economic pressures every day?
